Tanya Taylor is having a moment. The Toronto native started her own fashion line after graduating with a degree in finance from McGill University. Now a major mover and shaker in the industry, her clothes have been spotted on many famous women, from Michelle Obama (nbd) to Jessica Alba.

But if you’ve checked her out on Instagram lately, you’d notice she doesn’t let her busy schedule get in the way of having a little fun. The RTR designer gave us a little insight into her business, favorite brunch spots and the role models she’d invite to her dream dinner party. Read on to get the scoop.

What’s been the most surprising thing about owning your own business?

The most surprising thing has been how quickly it has grown, and how hard it is to balance the creative and business side of the company.

Number 1 tip for staying motivated?

Reminding myself that my life-long dream is now my reality!

It’s Saturday. Your schedule is wide open. Where would you spend it in NYC?

I would start with brunch at Cafe Cluny, spend the day gallery hopping in Chelsea, have some friends over for an afternoon cocktail/BBQ on my roof, and catch the ballet at Lincoln Center with my husband.

If you could throw a dinner party with anyone dead or alive, what 5 people would you invite and what drink would you serve?

I would serve sidecars just like the Ritz in Paris to Marie Curie, Bette Davis, Coco Chanel, Princess Diana, and Frida Kahlo.
